CHEAP PLACES TO EAT IN BARCELONA
Today we would like to offer you a list of cheap places to eat in downtown Barcelona. Don´t get the wrong expectations – this is not an article that will include a list of McDonalds´ or Burger King restaurants around Barcelona, – no. We would like to suggest a couple of places that still offer healthy food and on acceptable prices. Especially if you are a tourist or newly arrived expat in Barcelona, it is pretty difficult to distinguish the good places from the ones that offer meals of less impressive quality.
Maoz Barcelona: the food there is completely vegan and the idea is to order a falafel pita or a salad, then choose whatever garnish and dressing you want and then to get a free “refills”. The price of a pita is around 5 Euros and a complete menu that includes drinks, French fries and a falafel pita is around 7-8 euros. The only things is that there are not many tables, which means you might have to stand while you´re enjoying your delicious falafel pita or salad.
Wok to Walk: They have 2 locations : one in the Gotic neighborhood (Jaume I, 7) and another one on Ramblas 95. It is an international franchise so maybe many of you are familiar with them. For those who are not: the idea is to choose what you want to eat in 3 steps – first you choose the main dish – a couple of types of rice and pasta, then the main ingredient – broccoli, mushrooms, meat etc, and then the sauce. The price is around 6-7 euros and the restaurants offer a couple of tables where you can sit and enjoy your wok.
Veggie Garden (Carrer dels Àngels, 3): We won´t hide it – this is one of our favorite places in Barcelona. The idea of the restaurant is to be vegan, but many people who are not vegans or vegetarians can be found there every day, because the food is tasty and the service is very friendly. They have a daily menu (not only during lunch time) for €8.25 that includes 3 plates, bread and a drink. They offer freshly squeezed vegetable and fruit juices so if you go there don´t forget to try them! The restaurant is not very big, but has 2 floors and a terrace on the street.
If you are looking for a typical Spanish breakfast or brunch options:
Forns del Pi (Carrer Ferran 12): Located on the famous Carrer Ferran, the restaurant is pretty big and pretty popular amongst locals and tourists alike. We especially want to recommend their very tasty chocolate croissant as well as their coffee. The also offer big variety of typical Spanish bocadillos (sandwiches) and some other breakfast options, as well as Paella and sangria, if you want to do the typical tourist lunch.
El Mos Barcelona (Carrer Comtal 12): It is a small, cozy coffee shop located close to Plaza Catalunya. They offer pastries and cakes, sandwiches and the typical Spanish breakfast. Their coffee is also exceptionally good, as well as their selection of herbal infusion teas.
Our advice is that when you look for a place to eat in Barcelona, always give an ear to the language that is spoken by the people on the tables. If you hear Spanish or Catalan, this is always a good sign that the food is good and the place is tried and tested by the locals.
