JANUARY EVENTS IN BARCELONA
January is usually known as the slowest month of the year. Everything gets a little bit calmer after the Christmas and New Year Holidays. But not in Barcelona! Here is our selection of the best events and places to be inBarcelona in January. If you are new in Spain, maybe you don’t yet know about the famous discount sales “rebajas”. They happen twice per year and the winter ones start on 7th of January. Almost every shop makes big discounts on some of their winter items and you have a good chance to do some amazing shopping. Some of the brands go even further than the usual rebajas. For example this year Desigual offers their clients the chance to enter semi naked and go out with new clothes – the campaign is for 7th January in their store at Passeig de Gracia 47. The Spanish name of the campaign is “Entra semi desnudo y sal vestio”. Be prepared for a big crowd of people and of course be there before the store opens!
For the fans of the cinema and Barcelona, Centre Civic Navas offers a variety of projections of movies shot in Barcelona. The name of the event is “Barcelona una ciudad de rodatge” (Barcelona a city of shooting/filming) and will include movies like “Vicky,Cristina Barcelona”, “L´AubergeEspagnole”, “All about my mother” and many others. The projections will take place in the Centre Civic (address: Navas de Tolosa, 312, Telephone : 933493522 ) and it will take place from January till March.
If you have passion for art and architecture you might be interested in visiting the exposition “Arquitectos, otras miradas” in Mitte (calleBailén 86) where varies architects (Mario Corea, JosepFerrando, Alex Muñoz and others) will represent their view on the world but using different methods – like light, photographs, collages, and scale design models. The exposition is free and it will open its doors on Jan 9th at 9 o´clock and will be open for visitors till the end of the month.
Another exposition that you could visit is “20 años de premios LUX. Una mirada a la fotografía professional” which is a collection of professional photographs that have won the LUX photography awards in the past 20 years. It takes place in Palau Robert (Passeig de Gracia 107) from Monday to Saturday from 10.00 to 20.00 and on Sundays and holidays from 10 to 14.30 and the entrance is free. The exposition will be opened till 28th April.
Our last suggestion of an exposition has an interesting name, is : “Drive my car”. It takes place in Gallery Tagomago till 12th January. The exposition includes more than 80 photographs of cars (where the car is the protagonist) taken over the last 92 years since 1920. The idea is to show how the cars have been seen through the eyes of the photographers in different times and eras, and it definitely grabbed our attention!
And our last suggestion is enjoying the Friday night with The Tea Servants and El Gran Manel. The concert will take place on 4th January in Apolo (c/ Nou de la Rambla, 113) at 21:00 and the entrance is free. A great start of the weekend!
