Swing, a flashmob, Asian jazz, a flea-market and some ideas how to meet new people in Barcelona
These days the weather in Barcelona was pretty rough, but the good news is the forecast for the weekend is much better, or at least it is for less wind, so prepare your good mood and let´s have some fun!
If Swing-Jazz is your thing, you should definitely head down to Gran Hotel Havana on Friday and Saturday evenings between 19.30 and 21.15 where they host “Cocktail and Swing”. A perfect combination of Jazz, Blues and Swing music, enjoyed with one of their famous international cocktails in the Jazz Corner Piano Bar will certainly be an evening to remember! Every week different trios from all over Spain (and abroad) combine different styles to create an atmosphere similar to a typical New Orleans Jazz Club. Additionally, you can also have a “swing menu” dinner at the Grand Palace restaurant. The hotel is located at Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, 647 and tickets can be purchased in advance here.
Have you ever participated in a flashmob? If you haven´t you can participate in one at Plaza de la Catedral on 14th February. The flashmob is part of the campaign “One billion rising” and Barcelona will be one of the participating cities. “One billion rising” is an international initiative against gender violence. All you need to participate in the flashmob is a lilac hanky.
Asian Jazz: Yes you read right. It is unusual, but definitely a performance worth seeing. Tonight the Asian Jazz band “Unit Asia – Asia Fusion Jazz” will have a concert at Espai Barts situated on Av. Paral.lel 62. Tickets can be reserved at this number 933248492 or you can check their website for more information. The band is made up of musician from 3 Asian countries – Malaysia, Thailand and Japan and their style is a mix of jazz, pop and rock.
Are you a “treasure hunter”? If you are don’t miss the flea-market this weekend at CCCB patio (c. Montalegre 5) from 11am to 20pm. There you can find second hand and vintage items, or buy different arts and crafts. During the market hours there will also be activities for the kids and live music.
If you are new in Barcelona and still haven’t met many new people or if you are just the social type of person who loves to meet people, we might have something for you. Sometimes for the expats is difficult to find their group of people in the new city, because of the language barrier or for some other reason.Meetup is a network of local groups. It gives people the opportunity to create a local group or join an existing one (could be ¨coffee club¨, sports related group, social media group, language exchange etc) and then organize a meeting with the members. It is that easy!
