REGISTER AS FREELANCER IN BARCELONA
Registering as freelancer is one of the more complicated steps to take, especially if you are a foreigner and you don’t speak fluent Spanish.
We asked Jordi Nogués from Gestoría Barcelona to create a short list of steps you need to follow in order to become a freelancer in Barcelona.
For all the EU citizens who would like to move to Barcelona and register as a freelancer (in Spanish “autónomo”) we will summarize the main steps to follow.
1. Get the NIE – for more information check this article
2. Register in Hacienda with model 030
By doing this you are letting the tax office know that you are a fiscal resident in Spain. For this step you will need an address in Barcelona (empadronamiento), passport, NIE and application form 030, which can be bought to the tax office. This form has to be presented in person.
3. Get a social security number (for more information read here )
In Spanish it is called “Número de Afilición en la Tesoreria General de la Seguridad Social.”
4. Once you have obtained all these documents, the only step left is to actually register as freelancer.
This process involves several application forms and a good knowledge of how the system works and which is the best option for you. We strongly suggest that you look for professional assistance at this step. If you want to contact Gestoría Barcelona you can ask for an appointment and they can explain in detail what your obligations are as freelancer and what the best fiscal option is in your specific case.
If you speak Spanish you can check their website and blog where you can find many useful articles.
