SHOPPING IN BARCELONA
If you love shopping, you will definitely like shopping in Barcelona even more. It has something to offer everyone – fashion and gadget junkies, retro clothing collectors, jewelry and Swiss watch lovers, and of course, the variety is endless.
There are several main shopping areas. Of course the most popular and touristic ones are Passeig de Gracia, La Rambla and Avinguda Diagonal.
Barcelona offers thousands of shops and many of the shopping areas are pedestrian zones which of course makes the shopping easier.
The clothing shops include brands like Mango, Zara, Bershka, H & M, Jack and Jones. For the more brand-aware individuals, you will find all the major brands like Giorgio Armani, Calvin Klein, Versace, Diesel, Dolce & Gabbana etc. Most of these more expensive stores can be found at Avinguda Diagonal, whereas more urban style at the Portal de l´Angel.
If you decide to browse in Barrio Gotico or Raval, you will find many small boutique shops that sell vintage clothes, shoes and jewelry.
If you are going for clothes shopping, you might like to know about the annual sales (or “rebajas” as they are locally known). The winter sales begin on 7 January, while the summer sale usually starts around the 1st of July.
For the lazy shoppers, Barcelona offers also a couple of big shopping centers – Les Glòries, Maremàgnum (which is the only one open on Sundays), El Corte Ingles (picture below), and also others such as Diagonal Mar, L’illa Diagonal, and La Maquinista.
If you´re a gadget-junkie, look no further than the newly opened Apple Store (located next to Plaza Catalunya) and FNAC, where you can buy all the latest toys and gizmos, not to mention computer hardware, music, and merchandising. If you become a member you can enjoy frequent discounts.
If you´re REALLY serious about bargain-hunting, Roca Village is the ideal place to visit. La Roca Village. It is located on highway AP7, exit 12, direction Gerona. It has more than over 100 shops where brand name items from previous seasons can be bought. Discounts go reach up to 60% off. Similar centers can be found in other villages such as Igualada and Mataro, although they are not nearly as big. There is a direct bus that can take you there from Fabra I Puig bus station
