VISA RENEWAL IN BARCELONA FOR NON-EU RESIDENTS 

After the first residency permit issued in your home country expires, you need to follow the process for the visa renewal in Barcelona. This process involves submitting an application for the renewal, which must be approved before you can proceed with applying for the new (replacement) TIE residency card. 

The three most common visa renewals we assist with are:

• Student visa

• Family member of an EU citizen

Visa Renewal in Barcelona process: 

Typically, student visas get renewed after each year of studies and the non-lucrative usually is renewed for 2 years after the first permit expires. In other words, if you were on 1 year non-lucrative visa – if you decide to renew it, you will be given a two year visa. Once those two years have passed, you can start the visa renewal process in Barcelona for another two year visa. Once you have completed 5 years of uninterrupted residency in Spain, you can apply for a long-term visa, if all requirements are met.

Visa renewal in Barcelona has to be applied for from 60 days before the expiry of your current TIE card. It is also possible to apply for the renewals up to 90 days after the expiry date of the TIE, but be aware that there is a possibility of a penalty being applied.

We strongly recommending starting the visa renewal in Barcelona from the 60 days before the expiry date, as this makes the process easier in general and allows sufficient additional time to prepare documents, and it will also allow you spare time in case there is paperwork missing, or additional documents required.
